This new processor support Hyper-Threading which means it allows two threads to run simultaneously on each core. Hyper-Threading increases processors performance and enables Xserve to fully utilize its execution resources without significantly increased die size, transistor count or power requirements. Xserve microarchitecture executes up to four instructions per clock cycle per core and also run more instructions out of order. This processor continues 64-bit support for large memory loads, enhanced SSE4 SIMD engine handles 128-bit vector computations in a single cycle.
It also delivers 19 percent reduction in idle power consumption and provides 89 percent better performance per watt over previous generation. Integrated power gates in "Nehalem" processor allow an advanced power management system to dynamically manage threads, cache, cores and interfaces to deliver outstanding energy efficiency and performance on demand. These power management enhancements of processors when coupled with smart system design in Xserve, results in a server which is less expensive to power and cool.

Apple's new Xserve introduces a dynamic performance technology that automatically boosts processor clock speed based on workload. This Turbo Boost technology of processor shuts off idle cores while simultaneously increases speed of active ones. With the help of built-in NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 graphics card and without taking a valuable expansion slot, it’s easy to manage system using a keyboard, mouse and display. Apple’s server-side video processing tools such as podcast producer in Mac OS X Server features 2D/3D acceleration of GPU which enhances rendering and video processing.
Not only this "Nehalem" processor also features an active cooling system that intelligently manages fan speeds. Each fan has two independent counter-rotating blades which is individually monitored and controlled by over a dozen temperature sensors. Original price of Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" processor at Macmall is $2,994.00. Install server comes in any of several kinds of racks, including open four-post racks and cabinets from 24 to 36 inches deep.
